According to a study conducted by the Ministry, more than half of Japanese travellers would read a tour brochure as their primary source. When buying travel there are a number of distribution channels available to consumers. After careful research, they may book their trip through a combination of traditional distribution partners withover 6,000 retail shops and online options. Sales of tour packages through internet are growing and it currently plays an important role in the distribution system for domestic travel.

2009 Sapporo Snow Festival

Sapporo Snow Festival 2009 This year the 60th Sapporo Snow Festival will be held from Feb5-11. The Sapporo Snow Festival, one of Japan's largest winter events, attracts a growing number of visitors from Japan and abroad every year. Every winter, about two million people come to Sapporo to see the hundreds of beautiful snow statues and ice sculptures which line Odori Park and the main street in Susukino.
The Snow Festival began in 1950, when local high school students built six snow statues in Odori Park. in 1955, the Self-Defense Force joined in and built the very first massive snow sculpture, for which the Snow Festival has become famous for now. The Festival has grown from these humble beginnings to become one of the biggest and most well known of Hokkaido's winter events.
