“AutoGyro Man” touches down at Abu Dhabi Airport

Norman Surplus GyrocopterAbu Dhabi International Airport (in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates) welcomed Norman Surplus, also known as “AutoGyro Man,” to the emirate yesterday evening on April 14, as part of the UK adventurer’s world record attempt to circumnavigate the world in a gyrocopter, while at the same time raising awareness for the charity Bowel Cancer UK.

Surplus, 47 year of age, father of two and a cancer-survivor himself, is aiming to be the first person to achieve a FAI “First Absolute World Record” for circumnavigating the world by a gyrocopter (mini-helicopter), set off from Northern Ireland on 22 March 2010 and prepared the round-the-world expedition to taking approximately four to five months. His route will take him approximately 27,000 miles / 46,000 kilometers, with stopovers in 26 countries in total.
