Belgian Tourist Office Wallonia – Brussels has appointed Ms Maho Toyota as Belgium’s Tourism Ambassador to Japan
Belgian Tourist Office Wallonia – Brussels has appointed an actress, Ms Maho Toyota, as Belgium’s Tourism Ambassador. She was on a LaLaTV’s travel program “I love traveling” and made a report on Belgium which was broadcasted in September 2009. This was how she has appointed as an Ambassador. The official launch ceremony was held at the Nifty Corporation’s “Tokyo Culture Culture” live house on 27th November 2009.
Mr. Damien Dome, Director for Japan, Belgian Tourist Office Wallonia – Brussels, said, “We were looking for a person who can promote good points of Belgium strongly and naturally, and then we have met Maho (through the TV program). We thought she was the most appropriate person for this role.” About the role of the Tourism Ambassador, he explained, “Sightseeing is one of the pleasures of traveling, but there are some other important elements. Visit Belgium and find a new part of yourself by feeling and touching our history and culture.” Also he said that she will be involved in various promotion activities for Brussels and Wallonia regions, and also she will be introducing warmth of Belgium.
Ms Toyota has visited Belgium for the first time when she went on TV location. Ms Toyoda said, “I feel lonely and miserable at least once while I am traveling overseas, however, Belgium was different! People in Belgium were friendly and warm.” Ms Toyota has an aptitude for painting, and was strongly impressed with the Magritte Art Museum, and she was painting four pictures during the shooting trip on the theme of Belgium’s historical buildings and the local people in Auberge.
Also, she made a comment about Belgium cuisine with admiration and said “I enjoyed having fresh & tasty coffee at every café in town, and impressed with authentic Belgium food, which is a blending of French and German foods.” She has suggested creating a themed tour such as “Gourmet Tour” to Belgium.
