Narita Winter Schedule Sees Substantial Reduction of International Passenger Flights – Domestic Schedule Enjoys Highest Increase
According to the winter schedule at Narita International Airport (October 25, 2009 to March 27, 2010), the number of international passenger flights is reduced by 17 flights to 1415 per week compared to the summer schedule this year. Also, compared to the winter schedule 2008, which was the highest on record throughout the year, the number of weekly flights this winter substantially decreased by 47.5 flights. Meanwhile, the number of domestic flights totals 154 weekly, registering the highest record both for summer and winter schedules. While airlines pull out international services from other Japanese airports, they concentrate operations at Narita International Airport. It can be analyzed that the airlines are putting on more domestic flights to provide connections to international flights from Narita.
By airline, All Nippon Airways (ANA) enhanced its Asian destinations with additional four weekly flights to Mumbai while Japan Airlines (JAL) increased its services to Shanghai, Guangzhou and Jakarta with additional seven weekly flights respectively. JAL also added three weekly flights on the Narita/Delhi route. Jakarta and Delhi are flown by JALways (JO) on behalf of Japan Airlines. Delta Airlines (DL) increased its weekly frequency to Portland, New York and Guam operating additional seven flights to each destination. Northwest Airlines (NW) put additional seven flights per week on its Atlanta, Ho Chi Minh City and Nagoya routes from Narita respectively.
Meanwhile, ANA reduced seven flights a week to Kansai International Airport and to Guangzhou. JAL also reduced seven weekly flights respectively to Incheon, Guangzhou and Nagoya. Virgin Atlantic (VS) and Air New Zealand (NZ) operate six weekly flights with one frequency less. For further details, please refer to the following table.
