logo_qantasQantas Airways (QF) will be introducing a new next-generation airport check-in system at six main domestic ports in Australia. This is based on the Qantas “Airport of the Future” initiative. The features of the new system is that Qantas Frequent Flyers’ cards will be embedded with an intelligent chip, transforming them into personal boarding passes linked to permanent bag tags. This will enable passengers to swipe their Frequent Flyer card on a reader and head to a simplified baggage drop, or straight through the security process to their departure gate. This system will halve check-in times for customers.

New check-in system will launch at the CityFlyer ports such as Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra, where they have high flight operation frequency with many domestic business travelers, and the service will firstly commence in Perth in mid-2010. Roll-out will then commence in Sydney after six months, and remaining ports through the year 2011. The service will be available for all Qantas Frequent Flyers from Silver through to Platinum and all Qantas Club Members. Bronze Frequent Flyers and non-frequent flyers will also see significant upgrades to their check-in arrangements, with rapid bag drop.
