logo_japanairlinesJapan Airlines (JAL) and Dubai-based Emirates Airline (EK) reached an agreement to expand their code share partnership between Japan and Dubai. JAL will start placing its “JL” flight indicator on EK-operated flights between Tokyo (Narita) and Dubai from March 28, 2010, when EK will launch the new direct service to Narita, flying five times a week.

Both airlines have been offering code share services on the Osaka (Kansai) = Dubai route since 2002. By further strengthening their partnership through the new connection between Tokyo and Dubai, both airlines can build a more extensive network to increase customer convenience and better facilitate business and tourist travel to the Middle East from Japan.

In addition to the code share flights, JAL and EK also linked their frequent flyer programs (FFP) in October 2002, enabling members of the JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) and Emirates’ Skywards FFP to earn miles on each other’s flights.

Reservations and ticket purchase for the new code share service will commence on February 25.

logo_mexicanaJapan Airlines (JAL) and Mexicana (MX) announced today that they will expand their code share partnership to cover new routes that will improve the connection between Japan and Mexico, using three mutual gateways in North America – Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver.

From January 14, 2010, Japan Airlines will expand its services between Los Angeles and the Mexican city of León/Bajío (Guanajuato) and between San Francisco and Mexico City by adding its “JL” code on flights operated by Mexicana. Concurrently, Mexicana will begin placing its “MX” indicator on JAL-operated round-trip flights between San Francisco and Tokyo (Narita). Reservation and ticket sales for these new code share flights start tomorrow.

The frequency of existing code share one-way flights from Tokyo (Narita) to Vancouver operated by JAL, and from Vancouver to Mexico City operated by MX, will also increase from 5 to 7 flights a week starting January 18, 2010 – when reservations and ticket sales will also commence.

JAL and Mexicana, both members of the oneworld alliance, inked their first bilateral agreement in 2005 before they joined the alliance in 2007 and 2009 respectively. The carriers can now market JAL operated flights from Tokyo (Narita) to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver, as well as connections on MX operated flights to and from five Mexican cities Guadalajara, Cancun, Los Cabos, Mexico City and the newly added León/Bajío. Through the expansion of their partnership, Japan Airlines and Mexicana look forward to strengthen their respective offerings and network, and jointly present valued customers with evermore options and convenience.

ANA and Etihad Airways to Start Code-sharing – ANA’s first code-share flight to direct operation between capital of UAE and Japan

logo_staralliance-anaDecember 14, 2009 – ANA has today applied to the Japanese government for regulatory approval to enter into a new code-share agreement with Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (hereinafter referred to as “Etihad”), starting from March 1, 2010.

The increase in cooperation between the two airlines aims to provide greater travel options and convenience for passengers traveling between Japan and UAE.

Under the deal, ANA will place its two-letter ‘NH’ code on the four weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and Nagoya due to be operated by Etihad Airways from February 1, 2010. In turn, Etihad will place its ‘EY’ code on ANA operated flight between Nagoya and both Sapporo and Fukuoka.

The code-share agreement will be extended from March 28, 2010 to cover domestic services operated by ANA between Narita and Osaka Itami. This has been timed to coincide with the launch by Etihad of its second new Japanese service between Abu Dhabi and Narita, the first direct service connecting the capital cities of both countries. At this time ANA will place its two-letter ‘NH’ code on the Abu Dhabi Narita services.

The increased cooperation between the two airlines will also extend to their respective frequent flyer programs (FFP). From March 1, 2010, members of both ANA Mileage Club and the Etihad Guest program will be able to accrue and redeem miles on flights on each other’s networks.

Etihad’s home base of Abu Dhabi possesses rich energy resources and is already developing strong links with Japan in the fields of energy and the environment. The Emirate is also an increasingly important centre for culture and sport, with new museums such as the Louvre and Guggenheim set to open in the next few years and the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix now a fixture in the annual Grand Prix race calendar. Less than one hour away from Dubai, and with easy access to the rest of the UAE, Abu Dhabi is also ideally located. With its diversified economy and favorable geographic location, significant expansion in tourism and business within Abu Dhabi is expected in the coming years.
