
Japan-U.S. Air Talks were held in Tokyo from July 8 to 10, but failed to reach an agreement. Following the air talks held in October 2008, both parties resumed the talks to discuss the departure and arrival slots at the Tokyo metropolitan airports and the further deregulation based on the expansion of the slots foreseeable for 2010. It ended up again without any progress; however, they fortified the basic stance of trying to reach an agreement with the package deal covering three issues including the route expansion at Haneda, a distribution of the departure and arrival slots at Narita and the further deregulation, and decided to get themselves ready for the next round of air talks which are slated for the beginning of September.

During the Japan-China summit meeting held on April 29, it was agreed that schedules charter operations be launched between Tokyo Haneda and Beijing Capital Airport. Both parties indicated during the talks their respective intentions to start the services in October this year. In efforts to realize the planned charter operations, MLIT, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will coordinate with relevant offices concerned. Read more…

Aviation officials from Japan and Hong Kong met for air talks from March 17 to 19 and both parties agreed to inaugurate the Haneda/Hong Kong route, taking advantage of the take-off and landing slots which will be available in the daytime when Haneda’s fourth runway becomes operational in October 2010. The bilateral agreement allows both Japanese and Hong Kong’s airlines to operate respectively two flights per day, totaling four flights.
