JAL Group FY2008 Operating Plan Incorporates Increased Service on
Seven Routes and Strengthening of Competitiveness Mid-February, 2008
The JAL Group, on February 1, announced its route, flight
frequency and fleet plan for fiscal year 2008 (April 1, 2008 - March
31, 2009). JAL will aim to strengthen its competitiveness through
pursuing a balanced strategy between business and tourism demands,
fleet renewal and the introduction of high quality products and
services.
JAL will strengthen its international passenger operations at
Narita Airport as a global hub and increase international flights at
Haneda in preparation for the expansion of arrival and departure
slots in the Tokyo metropolitan area in 2010.
For example, at Narita Airport, service to New York will be
increased from 13 to 14 flights per week (Twice daily service),
service to Moscow from 2 to 3 flights per week, service to Paris from
7 to 11 flights during the period from July 1 through October 25,
2008. In Asia, service to Busan will be increased from 7 to 14
flights per week (Twice daily service) and service to Hangzhou from 5
to 7 flights per week (Daily service).
Additional scheduled services operated during the 2007 summer
season from Narita to Honolulu (7 weekly flights) and to Vancouver (3
weekly flights), however, will not be planned in 2008.
JAL will operate scheduled charter flights between Haneda and
Beijing Nanyuan during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. JAL plans to
increase the number of charter flights operated during the time frame
available for international charter flights to more than 280 it
operated in FY2007.
Service to Qingdao from Osaka's Kansai Airport will be increased
from 3 to 4 flights per week. Further, JAL made reference to
strengthen its service network for the Kansai region.
JAL will promote premium customer-oriented strategy through
downsizing and renewing its fleet. B777-300ER will replace B747-400
from August 1, 2008 between Narita and New York (JL005/ 006 only) and
between Narita and San Francisco from September 1, 2008. New First
Class and Business Class seats and Premium Economy Service will be
introduced on these routes.
B737-800 in lieu of B767-300 will be introduced on its service to
Guangzhou from Narita (JL660/ 669 only) and Kansai, and to Busan from
Nagoya (Chubu). B767-300 with 150 less seats will replace B747-400 on
Narita/ Kaohsiung sector effective October 1, 2008.
VJAL flight numbers will be placed on all flights operated by Japan
Asia Airways to Taipei and Kaohsiung from April 1, 2008. JAL Shell
Flat Seat will be expanded to Narita/ Bangkok (JL703/ 704) effective
March 30, 2008.
