Yuzawa Onsen 湯沢温泉
Yuzawa (湯沢) is located in Minamiuonuma District in the mountains of the Chuetsu region of Niigata Prefecture, Japan. It is famous for its hot spring and the large number of ski resorts in the area.
Yuzawa hot spring dates back over 800 years. The thermal water is a weak, simple alkaline, claimed to possess great healing qualities, especially good for recovery from aches and pains. Many of the hot springs can be found just west of Echigo Yuzawa train station. Hot springs are found in practically each of the ryokan as well as easily available in public hot spring baths.
Access
Yuzawa is easily reached via the Echigo-Yuzawa Sta. (越後湯沢駅) of the Joetsu Shinkansen line. Trains run 2-4 times per hour from Tokyo station, taking 75-90 minutes at a cost of ¥6490 (no cost if you are using the Japan Rail Pass)
